Pet-sitting a Cat Overlord

So we started thinking that pet sitting might not be our thing. But we loved the first cat we watched, so figured we'd give cats another go.

Little did we know we were watching the Queen of Cats. Her Persnickety Highness had the strictest food preferences of any pet we've watched. Wet food twice today, but only one small spoonful and you have to mix it with warm water so it's room temperature and you have to mix in a spoonful of chicken broth. In addition, dry food throughout the day but only 5-10 kibbles at a time, otherwise the kitty pukes because she eats too much. And this tiny dry food amount? Every hour or two, but no more than 90 kibbles per day. You can't leave home for more than 3 hours or the cat starves. Also she has an automatic dry food dispenser that gives her this exact same dry food, but she ignores it and demands her hand-poured kibbles every hour instead.

Even adhering to the strict food requirements didn't totally stave off kitty puke though. One morning Evan chased her around with a paper towel while she oh-so-conveniently moved around the apartment creating half-processed food puddles 🤦‍♀️

As if the food wasn't enough, the cat hates strangers and hisses and claws at you for no reason. We did not feel welcome in this home and were reminded of this every hour or so when the cat requested dry food but swatted us if we tried to pet her.

There were a few good moments where the cat warmed up to us, but these felt more like "I have declared a temporary ceasefire" rather than a "welcome I accept you".

At least this is a short sit right? Wrong. This was our longest sit yet, almost 2 weeks long. And we found out something came up and the owner actually cancelled her trip and had been back in town since day 2. We would have happily moved on early if we'd known!
